Social media desensitizes us from being apart of human interaction, it brings us closer to people far from us but pulls us further from the ones who we are with at that moment in time. We are being desensitized to actual human communication be the means of social media. With the use of todays technology and social media sites, we are constantly in connection with the internet and we are receiving and putting out so much information that we don't think about what is really going out and coming in. Social media is second nature to this generation, it appears that most of the younger generations relate better with social media and todays technology then any other generation ever. This is allowing for a change in which we communicate the younger generation is so desensitized to social media that they consider that to be their first means in which they communicate. Human interaction which was always how one thought first to communicate is falling back and we are starting to lose the values of interpersonal communication.
Social media today is allowing cyber bullying to be at its all time high. With so many social media sites and ways to communicate through the internet it is allowing cyber bullying to reach new heights which yields very negative consequences. When I think about ways that we can over come this problem is to first trade compassion instead of judgment or negativity. I feel that this problem is honestly one that can be solved very easily. One must identify the ability to be kind and thoughtful instead of rude and judgmental. If instead of throwing salt we traded guidance the we wouldn't have this problem. Being empathetic towards someone will over come the negativity in their life. We can all be better friends and overall people in this world just by simply complimenting every now and then. When it comes to fixing this problem in social media start by finding someone who looks as if they need a boost and compliment on a picture or say something nice on their account anything to generate a smile or pass kindness along. This hopefully then will create a pattern and then that person will send a compliment down the line and so on. I am prepared to be someone who identifies the positives in social media and use it to connect with others as well as pass kindness and compassion to others who appear to need it.
What rhetoric stirred things up on your social feed?
I noticed that I didn't see much content regarding the address come up on my news feed from the people I am friends with on Facebook which seems to me that not a lot of people who I know even watched the address. It wasn't until I searched the hashtag did I find content on the speech. One thing that came up during the speech was evidence against his initial address on debt and healthcare. One thing that I found was multiple people shared the reaction of the Joint Chief after Obama essentially mocks them while the strength of our military has been in question during the Obama administration.
Where you affected by the rhetoric and or your social media?
I always felt that Obama was a great speaker and I noticed that he did a really good job in capturing the emotions of the crowd and saying things to get them excited about what he was saying. Numerous times he received a standing ovation for what he wanted to see happen. He used the crowds emotions heavily in gaining support for what he wanted. Looking through the social media content on my Facebook I noticed that I came across more negative material then positive. There was a lot on how what he said was all a lie much of the content is showing arguments against what he addressed a big one I found was on national debt. I wasn't really affected by a lot of the media on Facebook or any other social media site for I wasn't a big Obama supporter so I didn't follow his presidency all to often. I think he is a great speaker and that is what i feel landed him two terms in office was that he spoke to the public very well and told them what they wanted to hear, whether he followed up on what he said is up for debate.
